“Messages of LOVE, HOPE and LAUGHTER…”

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentaliste Diane Durrett afkomstig uit Atlanta, GA, is niet de eerste de beste. Dit bleek uit het commentaar van Sting die een duet met haar zong: “She’s good. She’s damn good!...”. Niet alleen haar eigen songs schrijft ze meestal zelf, maar ook songs voor/met andere songwriters als Jerry Ragovoy (“Piece of My Heart”), Emily Sailers (“Gallileo”), Kristen Hall (“Baby Girl”), Bonnie Bramlett (“Superstar”) en William Bell (“Born Under a Bad Sign”). Daarnaast is Diane ook schrijfster van boeken (“Driving Music City”), is ze producer en runt ze Blooming Tunes Music, een bedrijf dat opkomende artiesten (Julie Thames, Kelsey Oakley) coacht.

In 1993 debuteerde Durrett met haar album ‘50,000 Volts of Soul, gevolgd door ‘Rhythm of Life’ (1998), haar akoestische album ‘CHILL’ (2004), een live album ‘Georgia On the Groove’ (2007), ‘Blame It On My DNA’ (2009) (producer: Ike Stubblefield) en ‘Georgia Christmas’ (2011). Als opvolger van Diane’s vijfde studio album ‘Soul Suga’” (2015) bracht Diane in 2018 een nieuw live album uit, het tweede met haar backing band Soul Suga, ‘Diane Durrett & Soul Suga LIVE’. Het werd in 2017 opgenomen in Eddie’s Attic in Decateur, Georgia en is een album met niet minder dan 25 tracks en met veel verhalen uit het leven.

De opvolger, ‘Put a Lid On It’, wil met acht nieuwe songs een boodschap van LIEFDE & HOOP en een LACH uitstralen. Ze deed de opnames opnieuw met Soul Suga: drumster Melissa “Junebug” Massey, toetseniste Yoel B’nai Yehuda, bassisten Gregg Shapiro & Fuji Fujimoto, saxophonist Mike Burton, gitaristen Tomi Martin, Cody Matlock, Ian Schumacher & Daniel Groover. Tinsley Ellis speelt als “special guest” gitaar op een nummer.

Met de zelf beschouwende ballade “In My Soul” opent Diane vanachter haar piano het album, terwijl ze vanuit haar hart een gemeende liefdesverklaring doet. Ze troost dan op “We Got It” een dierbare met de eenvoudige woorden: “you never have to worry in my arms…”. “Sweeter Love Grows” is autobiografisch, “Blue Water” geeft je een vakantie gevoel en op “Wish It Would Rain”,levert Yehuda een sublieme partij Hammond orgel af. “Put a Lid On It” is een uitstekend nummer met als gast Alligator-gitarist Tinsley Ellis. Diane vraagt dan de nodige aandacht van haar geliefde op “Good News” en afsluiter “Make America Groove” doet je wat grijnzen, zeker als op het einde er met een funky dance beat afgesloten wordt.
